SOL embarks on spring season 2010 this weekend at Penn State, the new host of Philly Classic. Our pool looks to be strong. We'll be facing teams for the first time in our program's history:
UNC-Wilmington (Seaweed), Penn State (Isis), and Cornell (Thorny Roses).
Tonight's practice prior to Philly Classic was one of the most focused ones that SOL has seen all season. Though we'll be missing some clutch vets, this weekend will give our newbs a chance to shine and play out of their minds against some ridiculous competition.
It's been a blur of a week for SOL. We're ready to rock.
OH YEAH...HELP SUPPORT OUR TEAM WHILE YOU'RE THERE. Buy a sweet SOL bracelet. Only $2.
See you in Philly.

SOL Does Yoga

At practice last night in Zorn, I have come to the realization that Mariah Dorner has improved tremendously. That girl catches everything and anything. She is really coming into her own, and it is not overlooked at all. She is making ridiculous grabs left and right, coming down with things like you wouldn't believe.
Second, SOL has taken up a new endeavor: we go to yoga as a team on Tuesday/Thursday mornings when we do not have 6 am practice. Our newest, and super tall, addition to the team, Brooke Fahrenkrog, is a certified yoga instructor and happens to teach free classes at the YMCA. After doing a few sprints on the Olson track at 6:30 am, we headed to the Y to experience our first class as a team.
See my SOLmates bright and early on Thursday morning!

5:17 AM Car Fiasco
It was 12 am and once again, my neighbors parked me into my driveway. I frantically text Martha asking for a ride in the morning. She responded at 5:04 am, saying she will pick me up at 5:45. I hit the snooze until 5:20 and decided it was time to wake up. As of 5:17 am, Martha could not find her car keys and instructed me to devise a backup plan. At about 5:30 am, we started to frantically call our SOLmates. If we could not find rides, I would have had to leave by 5:15 in order to walk there and get there on time, due to the lack of public transportation in Eau Claire before 7 am. Moira came to our rescue. We had a ride. All was well.
This 6 am practice was awesome. Great bids, hustles, and hucks all around with our drills. We spent a vast majority of the time scrimmaging, as the newly renovated McPhee gym is the best indoor facility Eau Claire has to offer us (unfortunately we only get it early in the AM). We welcomed back Adele Christensen who was studying abroad in Spain in fall. "Bonjour Adele!" (Adele is a linguist of all sorts...Spanish, French, English)
Good week of SOLtimate.

SOL gets groovy
Well, after meeting up at the track and warming up, the few who showed up to the correct gym location in the snow storm for conditioning decided to get creative. Jess Haller suggested that the Zumba class (taught by former SOLmate, Kristi Finco) going on over at the other side of the track would be fun. Needless to say, Jess, Heather, George, and I attempted to do this. We got a great workout in...but I think I can speak for both George and myself when I say we do not have the greatest dance moves in the world. Unlike the one girl in the front row, us trying this new class was humorous to say the least. I definitely had some fun...and I'm sure Brit and Whit had fun laughing at us, as they could not participate.
We ended up taking advantage of the excess gym space (due to the intramural tournament of champions running through tonight) and enjoyed extra room to throw and what not.
Heather and I went to dodgeball and made some new friends too. I only got hit once in the face, but let's be honest, some girl already chipped my tooth yesterday at intramural finals, so no big deal.
Heading into finals with our gift exchange and SOLunch on Sunday afternoon before finals. Final stretch. Woo hoo.
{P.S. A special shout out to my new inspiration, Melissa Brown, for being the first SOL mate of the season to throw up at conditioning yesterday. She did her thing, and pushed through a hella tough workout in Zorn. We're working hard. SOL team stair count from conditioning practices only, thus far: 13,860 and yes this is an accurate number, I have been keeping track}
Go out and make a snow angel please. I know I will in the morning.
